Safety Report: Covid-19 OSHA Complaint, Cooper-Standard, 250 Oak Grove Dr, Mount Sterling, KY 40353, USA

Regulatory Report

250 Oak Grove Drive, Mount Sterling, 40353 Kentucky, United States

1. There is no encouragement to take sick days, incentive not to. Company has no paid sick leave, and has point system limit on amount of unpaid sick leave, then termination. No additional points have been given in response to Covid (besides temporary points that were only good in April, and were not extended). If a test is taken, points may be not received, but the full length of the test to return is unpaid if test is negative as opposed to returning for pay the next day and taking points. Strong financial incentive to return to work sick. They have daily papers listing symptoms, but are encouraged to just call if they have symptoms, and that they are only doing to the sheets to get rid of the mask requirement as soon as possible. This means no illness is documented on any papers. People with fever may return the next day. No explanation is given to employees about this to ensure they feel safe or that precautions are being taken. 2. They have social distancing papers detailing how to work while lessening contact, but are not followed or known by most employees. They are there on paper though, so that they continue working. 3. Masks are not required, although they are required. This means they must be worn on the chin incase corporate comes in. When the lack of sick days is combined with no distancing, masks are the last defense, and this defense has once again been brushed off. The reason given to pull up a mask is not safety, it's corporate is here. 4. Employees are allowed to spit tobacco while working on the factory floor. ... They won't do anything about it because supervisors also chew. ... This is probably the most ridiculous breach of basic safety. Additional info: This is a very hot factory. Very hot. It is very difficult to wear a mask. It is understandable that people try to avoid it. Face shields are available but very limited. It is possible to use those, but the company has not provided enough for use, and they are useless if you spit tobacco from them all day around workers. If they cannot wear masks or provide enough face shields, sick leave, not allowing people to come back within three days of a fever, and social distancing should be enforced. On paper- they are distancing, doing temp checks, and wearing masks. But reality, they are only temp checks, which is not enough when they are getting credit for doing any responsible precautions that aren't really happening. Maybe a few hundred people in all shifts. They share a cafeteria and halls.
