Handling Biohazardous waste Biohazardous (soiled diapers and other) waste is not properly disposed of in a timely manner within properly labelled and processed biohazard containers / bags. Staff places soiled diapers and other patient waste into standard trashcans in the patients rooms. Use of required PPE PPE is available but not worn properly as required by some staff. Some staff do not wear proper PPE when handling and caring for patients (COVID 19 concerns) related to biohazards from soiled diapers and other patient waste. In addition, PPE is not worn when dealing with soiled bedpans, plugged toilets, etc. Use of required PPE Staff does not always wear required masks and PPE. Nurses as well as Aides do not always properly gown up when entering quarantined / active rooms. Staff does not always change out their PPE after working with isolated / quarantined COVID 19 patients. They work elsewhere greatly increasing the risk of spread of the disease to others including patients and staff. Handling non-compliant patients Quarantined patients do not comply remain in isolation, walk about freely, do not always mask, and expose others to COVID 19. Plugging pipes People are flushing disposable wipes down toilets and plugging the pipes, creating situations such as overflowing toilets. Separation of supplies from waste stream Soiled / dirty linen is not properly separated from clean linen. Staff fails to separate clean and dirty linen containers.
