Une panne de courant a été signalée à Merrill le lundi 22 juillet à la suite d'un incendie causé par une branche qui a endommagé une ligne à haute tension. Cela s'est produit vers 18 h 30 dans l'allée du bloc 1300 de la 8e rue East à Merrill. La panne a d'abord touché environ 5 000 clients.
