According to the news, the unexpected reviews sparked conversation and speculation on Reddit and other social media platforms. A theory suggested that certain ingredients from the product were attracting the spiders, which garnered 15,000 shares, leading Sol de Janeiro to respond.
Through an Instagram story post, Sol de Janeiro denied claims that their products contain ingredients that attract spiders, stating "All of our products, including our new Delicia Drench Body Butter and upcoming Cheirosa 59 Perfume Mist are free from farnesyl acetate, diisobutyl phthalate, and hexadecyl acetate.” They added that while their products may attract a lot of attention from people, they won’t from arachnids. Sephora did not make any comments on the matter.
Despite the lack of evidence or scientific basis for these claims, the online discussions and humorous comments continue. As many in the scientific community point out, it is more likely that the increase in spider sightings is due to the changes in season and temperature, rather than any specific body butter.
