One Amherst County Public School will be closed Thursday and several businesses and neighborhoods are without power due to massive damage to utility poles. Multiple agencies responded to the Amelon Square Plaza and Route 130 intersection around 8 p.m. due to downed power lines.

A power outage has been reported in parts of the Madison Heights area. According to the Appalachian Power's outage map, about 1,262 customers were affected by the outage. Power has already been restored to the area.

Thousands in the Madison Heights community were without power on Tuesday morning due to a squirrel. According to AEP, three separate outages resulted in 2,982 customers losing power. All the outages started around 8:10 a.m., and they were all resolved before 12:30 p.m.
