About 8,500 Salt River Project customers were in the dark after two substations went down Thursday morning. According to an SRP spokesperson, the outage started just before 10 a.m. and is affecting thousands near Riggs and Recker roads, near the city and township lines of Queen Creek... See More and Gilbert. That’s where a power line was disrupted and caused two substations to go offline. Crews were actively working on determining the cause and restoring power to any affected customers. Power was restored after 11:30 a.m. No other information was immediately released.

Salt River Project reported outages impacting more than 17,000 customers between McQueen and Gilbert roads in Chandler and Gilbert around 2 p.m.

Only about 1,000 homes were without power in the East Valley as of 3:30 p.m. and most had power back by 6 p.m.
