1. Unarmed, uniformed, student Public Safety Officers (PSO) are concerned about students checking in their hunting rifles at the firing range. 2. PSOs patrol the campus alone, or with a partner/group as needed. 3. A PSO began wearing a bullet proof vest (BPV) on November 17, 2019,
after a suspected shooting threat and no known response from local law enforcement. Subsequently, PSO continued to wear BPV for all work shifts. The BPV does not interfere with performance of duties. 4. On or about August 4, 2020, while PSO helped students adhere to the new covid-19 related rules for social distancing and safety, a fellow student PSO inappropriately touched PSO and said, Are you wearing a vest?- A Senior Officer asked, Are you wearing a second chance?- 5. On August 7, 2020, the Risk and Safety Management Specialist and the Director of Human Resources told PSO a BPV cannot worn because it is not part of the uniform, it is not the impression the school wants to portray, and that the school does not provide a BPV to staff officers. PSO cannot wear their own privately purchased BPV. 6. PSO believes the BPV is vital PPE; the employer prevents it on basis of public relations, and their inability to provide the same level of protection to other staff members.
