OZHOMY has issued a recall for its Portable Tabletop Fire Pit Bowls due to a fire hazard. The products, sold on the Amazon Canada Website, were distributed by Cixi Lingzi E-commerce Co., Ltd. in China. The recall is due to non-compliance with Canadian labelling requirements for consumer chemical products.

WHY ARE THE PRODUCTS BEING RECALLED?

The recalled items fail to comply with the labeling standards mandated for consumer chemical products intended to be filled with hazardous substances, as outlined in the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001, under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. Additionally, the portable firepots lack the necessary labels required by the ASTM F3363-19 Standard Specification for Unvented Liquid/Gel Fuel-Burning Portable Devices. These labeling rules are essential to warn consumers about risks related to fire or burns, including the hazard of flame jetting.

Flame jetting happens when fuel vapors near a poured fuel stream ignite as someone refills a portable fire product that is still lit, sometimes even if the flame is not clearly visible. It can also take place when the flame has been put out but the device remains hot. This phenomenon can cause a sudden ejection of burning fuel that can travel a considerable distance, posing serious danger to both the user and those nearby. Because flame jetting occurs almost instantly, it leaves little time for anyone to react or move away from the unexpected burst of flame.
