Safety Report: NÜTRL Tumbler Cup recalled due to potential chemical and ingestion hazards, Canada

3 weeks ago source recalls-rappels.canada.ca

Recall notice

Canada

NÜTRL, a popular beverage brand, has issued a recall for its 30 oz. stainless steel tumbler cups due to potential chemical and ingestion hazards. The recall was initiated after several consumers reported illnesses linked to the product. As of May 23, 2024, Sunscope has received 43 reports from consumers experiencing various symptoms, the most common of which were headache, nausea, cramping and/or abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It is sold at various liquor commissions and private retailers across Canada.

The product in question is:
- NÜTRL branded 30 oz. (887 ml) stainless steel tumbler cup
- Manufactured by Sunscope.
- The tumblers were distributed as a promotional gift with the purchase of a case of 12 or 15 NÜTRL seltzers.
- The company has reported that approximately 33,000 units were distributed to consumers.
- The tumblers were provided to consumers as a promotional gift starting from April 29 to May 17, 2024.

Testing has revealed that some of the tumblers may contain a chemical solution trapped between the inner walls of the cup. This solution, containing sulfuric and phosphoric acids, may release when the tumbler is filled with liquid, posing a potential risk of serious injury. The interaction between the solution and the tumbler may also result in elevated levels of iron, chromium, and nickel. Reported health effects include burning of the lips, tongue, throat, stomach, tissue damage, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea.

If you have this product at home, do not consume it and return it to the store where it was purchased.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
