complaint received 11 December 2020 - Thompson Elementary School - Three EE's tested positive for COVID and the staff was not notified. Only the people deemed a close contact were informed. - The custodian was instructed to clean a room where a COVID-19 positive employee worked without being informed that was the reason he was cleaning the room. Because of this EE did not wear PPE to protect themselves. - The school district contends that they do not have to inform employees at work sites when active COVID Cases are present. Third Complaint received on 14 December 2020 - Bethel School District - An employee(the administrator)was directed to go to work by her boss even though their Doctor said to stay home at least 3 days after being tested for COVID while waiting on results. Administrator directed their employee to come to work since they have minimal contact. - EE was directed by administrator to not check the box stating COVID exposure when filling out Wellness checks every morning. - The Administrator tested positive - North Star Elementary Complaint 2 Feb 2021 - The school district is forcing its staff and students back to full capacity in a manner unsafe to adhere to the six foot social distancing requirements implemented by the governor in our self contained classrooms. The Bethel School District announced to parents / guardians of students that they would roll out a "hybrid model" (half the normal class size) upon returning to class when the COVID restrictions begin to let up. The latest update from the Bethel School District is they will not implement the hybrid model in the self contained classrooms as originally announced. Given the number students and staff, limiting exposure and maintaining social distancing will not be possible as recommended by the Governor. Staff at Bethel School District feel this is unsafe practice for them and the students and their families. - Bethel School District Complaint 3 Feb 2021 - The entire district administration is lacking transparency and are hiding the truth about COVID cases in the schools to them the false appearance of being safe. - As a district, COVID cases are not being reported to those who may have been exposed at work. There is no notification to staff about a possible exposure and only deemed necessary if one person, a district level non-practicing nurse, decides without any medical knowledge of those potentially exposed. There is not any communication about outbreaks in schools and schools are not closed when an outbreak occurs. This had happened in at least three schools in BSD. Once school had four active cases and the custodian was not notified to clean the rooms, staff were not notified and not all the people who were exposed were contacted. The building remained open. When staff ask questions they are shut down and fear retaliation for it. No transparency for notifying parents if students are exposed. When staff ask the procedure administration will not answer the questions and says they will not be notifying parents because they don't want to panic anyone. Staff are told to keep it a secret if they have COVID. They are not to share even if they want to. The teachers and para unions have tried reasoning with the district and they will not meet the communication expectations of a safe workplace. PPE given to staff does not meet US safety standards. Was made in China and the KN95 masks have actual holes in them.
