A vehicle crashing into a utility pole near Schifferdecker and Belle Center Road alerted Joplin E-911. Immediately there were 1,200+ without power in the area according to Liberty Utilities website. High winds began as anticipated about 1 p.m. in the Joplin Region. Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported tractor-trailers blown over, and those storms were coming our way. About 4:45 p.m. p.m. 3,600+ lost power in Missouri and Kansas according to Liberty Utilities online mapping

Storms rolled through the area quickly about 7 p.m. Thursday evening, March 30, 2023. And in the path about 1,200 lost power in Jasper and Newton counties according to Liberty Utilities online mapping. SE Joplin is the most affected and portions of Diamond and Granby.

Power outages across the region as temperatures plummet overnight. In Neosho, Missouri area some customers have been experiencing blinking lights. Crews are battling wind and bitter cold to find the issue and make repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

About 1:45 a.m. a tractor trailer struck a utility pole near 6th and Kentucky. Initially about 100 without power. The pole is about one block north of the 5th and Kentucky sub-station downtown Joplin. This could then effect other areas separate of Joplin downtown.
