A fast-spreading wildfire broke out in an area north of Bend on Friday afternoon. A cloud of smoke formed, prompting widespread Level 3 evacuations and causing a power outage affecting up to 14,000 customers and major traffic backups in the area. The fire was reported around 2:40 p.m. on Highway 97 near milepost 132 and had burned about 10 acres within an hour and was reported to have burned 20 acres by 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 2.Outage link: www.pacificpower.net/outages-safety.html
