Precipitation began as rain on Thursday 9th across the central valley of Chaffee County, turning to snow as temperatures fell. There is a power outage in the core downtown Salida area. Xcel estimates that it will have one transmission unit backup by 9:00 a.m. Friday 10th morning. An unexpected winter storm moved into the Arkansas River Valley overnight Thursday, dropping heavy, wet snow and causing power outages.
