Day 7 of coronavirus symptoms. The official policy in Arizona still seems to be don't ask don't tell. Urgent cares and ERs near me have tests, but say they won't test if you don't meet their criteria. They say I need to come in and cannot evaluate if we're eligible by phone. How much will a visit be? I won't know unless I show up. I don't have a mask, and neither does my wife. We both have symptoms. Will we accidentally expose some hapless person, only to go home without a test? Is it worth it? What happens if we test positive? Does it matter that I have asthma? Will I be denied because my fever isn't bad? Will my wife be denied because she doesn't have a cough? Nobody knows. I don't know what to do. This is the future we all face. And we're both privileged to have good insurance and be able to telecommute. I fear for the people we might infect who are not as fortunate. I fear for the people we might have already infected. When I began showing symptoms, I thought it was impossible I was one of the first ten people in Arizona with COVID. The statistics showed it was nearly impossible, and I've never been to China. So I went to work, as usual, went to a large downtown court complex for a settlement conference, shook hands with elderly court staff, and sat in a three-hour all-staff meeting just hours before I started to get a fever. How many people have I accidentally infected, or worse? How much danger will I continue to put people in because of our collective lack of knowledge? Should I go try to test? What is the purpose of risking someone else's death to assage my fears? I don't know the answer. I don't know if I will get worse or if I can get treatment if I do. I just want our government to stop lying to us and for some real answers, some real instruction.
