The Parkersburg Utility Board Friday afternoon issued a boil-water notice after a break caused reduced water pressure on Emerson Avenue and the potential for contamination, the board said. The areas affected are Emerson Avenue north of Stella Street to 5106 Emerson Ave. and Paddock Green Drive.

According to the Wirt County Office of Emergency Services, the main feed line coming out of Parkersburg is down. Mineral Wells through Palestine is without power. Over 10,000 residences are without power. The power company said this could last for days.

School officials say Parkersburg High School’s power is back on after students were dismissed early on Monday due to an outage. Officials say the power was restored just before 2:00 p.m.

Mon Power claims that more than 1,000 customers were without power when the incident occurred. As of 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, a little over 400 customers still did not have power. The company estimates that there should be a full restoration by 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Parkersburg Utility Board customers were advised on Dec. 11 to boil their water before use.
