MAIL FRAUD - Theft by deception with the USPS, often a component of mail fraud, involves using fraudulent schemes to obtain something of value through the mail, such as getting money or goods by making false claims about a product or service. It is defined under 18 U.S. Code § 1708, which prohibits obtaining mail through fraud or deception. This can involve intentionally misrepresenting facts to trick someone into sending money or valuables, or otherwise using the mail to execute a deceptive scheme.
