Vomiting. My 1 year old CavaPoo has been vomiting intermittently for the past two weeks. At first I thought she was drinking water too fast or playing too hard until I have finally put it together that the only common denominator in her vomit are these Dreambones. She'll go a couple days without eating them and will still vomit one up. Now I ask, How are these treats considered and allowed to be labeled "Highly Digestable" when clearly there's a problem. | Symptoms: Vomiting

vomiting but still had the bloody diarrhea. 2 days later he was still lethargic but interested in food. Dream bones treats have always been his favorite, he didn't have a lot of interest in eating and his treats were the only thing he would eat so we gave him 2. The next day we were back to the bloody diarrhea , lethargic, and loss of appetite. I cried, prayed, and held him all day, just knowing he wasn't going to make it. My heart shattered. We went thru this for 2 more days, then I started questioning if it was the treats. No more treats and giving him Activia yogurt and homemade soup and he's back to himself. (2), Saskatchewan (2), Manitoba (2), Ontario (18), Quebec (8) and New Brunswick (1).

Individuals became sick between March 2020 and January 2024. Five individuals have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. Individuals who became ill are between 0 and 84 years of age. Seven cases (20%) are in children 5 years of age or younger. More than half of the cases (66%) are female. The investigation is ongoing, as recent illnesses continue to be reported.

The outbreak, which has been ongoing since March 2020, has been traced back to two types of geckos: the crested gecko and the leopard gecko. Many of those affected reported either direct or indirect contact with these pets or their habitats prior to falling ill. Some individuals fell sick despite not handling the geckos themselves, but lived in the same house where the pets were kept. The same strain of Salmonella was found in a gecko habitat from the home of an ill individual.

In case you are experiencing Salmonella symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
