Regulatory Report

120 Betsy Way, Georgetown, 40324 Kentucky, United States

The school system is using Hillyard QT3 disinfectant (a "quat" or quaternary ammonium compound disinfectant) to clean desks, classrooms, tables, etc. as a response to the SARS-Cov-2 virus. They are applying with spray bottles after every class period (approximately every hour). Teachers have not been adequately trained on the use or hazards involved with this chemical. They are not wearing appropriate PPE. To our knowledge no one has evaluated the indoor air quality to ensure that the air is safe for either students or staff. We believe it is unlikely that adequate ventilation is in place to dilute this chemical to safe levels as it is being applied so frequently and aerosolized with spray bottles. Dozens of teachers and administrative staff and hundreds of students are exposed on a daily basis since school restarted in mid-October. * Can cause severe skin burns (corrosive - HMIS Health rating of 3) * Can cause severe eye damage * Acutely toxic, prolonged inhalation effects on the respiratory system are unknown * contains Ethanol which has a PEL but apparently no testing is taking place to ensure the limit is not exceeded * Contains quats which can cause contact dermatitis, asthma, and other problems
