Regulatory Report

Covid-19 OSHA Complaint, Hillsdale Hospital, 168 S Howell St, HILLSDALE, MI, 49242, USA

4 years ago business

168 South Howell Street, Hillsdale, 49242 Michigan, United States

1. Two Nutritional Services department employees mistakenly delivered a tray to a patient who was being tested for COVID-19 but not yet placed in quarantine. The employees were in the patient's room for about five minutes. They touched the patient's bedtable, the items on the bedtable, and the patient's bedding. 2. When it was later learned the patient had tested positive, the infection control manager and the charge nurse both said: 1) the two employees had nothing to worry about, 2) they would have to pay for covid-19 testing, and 3) that they could continue to work 14 days and monitor themselves. 3. The husband of one of these employees has COPD. The other employee has a rare blood disorder and takes immunosuppressant drugs. 4. The two employees finished their 14 days on October 16th, and neither became infected. 5. This situation could have turned out much worse. The hospital placed the employees in serious jeopardy by not taking proper steps in isolating the patient or offering tests to the employees.
