'- The Berrien County Juvenile Center has failed to take proper precautions to protect its employees and detained youth from covid-19 exposure. - There is a covid-19 positive youth in the facility. - Informational material has been posted. Training was conducted on May 28, 2020 that covered only hand washing and social distancing. No training on the coronavirus, how it spreads, or preventative measures. No training on proper use, storage, and disposal of PPE. No training on how to report unsafe work conditions. Staff were told to sign a covid-19 training read-receipt, although those policies were not in place. - Staff are repeatedly wearing the same face mask which is left in vehicles and taken home. - PPE that was worn into the covid-19 positive youth's room is being left in the hallway in an open cardboard box. - Face shields that were worn into the covid-19 positive youth's room were taken into the staff lobby. - No protocols on how to clean and disinfect. High traffic areas, such as key-pad entries, prescreen check-in area, bathrooms, staff lobby, medication cart, mailroom, and copy machine are not being cleaned or disinfected. Staff are mixing chemicals with no training due to lack of supplies. - No protocol on how to social distance. On May 28, 2020, residential groups were combined and moved into the smallest unit, making social distancing almost impossible. - Staff exposed to the covid-19 positive youth are being assigned to multiple units increasing exposure risk. - Staff in contact with the covid-19 positive youth have not been tested or quarantined. - A 5-gallon Igloo water dispenser is the only source of drinking water. No protocol on how to clean or use the Igloo everyone is touching. - Staff not passing the prescreen questionnaire are told to work anyway. - Staff are over staff although population number have been low. The facility has made no effort to work at the minimum required youth specialist. Staff are purposely being over scheduled.
