Hospital policy regarding isolation of COVID-19 positive patients and suspected COVID-19 patients is vastly different from policy regarding employee's who are possibly infected. As an employee who is symptomatic I have been told to quarantine for 10 days. I am not required to be tested for COVID-19. At the end of the 10 days if I no longer have symptoms I can return to work. Or if I have 2 negative COVID-19 tests at least 24 hours apart and I no longer have symptoms I may return to work sooner. In the hospital the practice is completely different. If the primary physician feels a patient doesn't need to be tested; regardless of symptoms, imaging showing suspected infection, or recent infection diagnosed outside the hospital, the patient is not placed in isolation. The patient will not be tested and health care providers in direct contact with patient will not be notified of any reason for concern. Further more. Any patient that has tested positive for COVID-19 who then has ONE negative COVID-19 test is removed from airborne precautions and considered safe for any high risk procedure that could expose employees (i.e. EGD, Colonoscopy, Surgery requiring intubation). I contacted the director of Endoscopy and RDU to inquire about hospital policy regarding performing procedures on COVID-19 positive patients. The response was 'we don't have one'. There was no indication that any person was going to work on creating a policy either.Source: Osha.gov | Receipt Date: 2020-12-20
