The office of the medical examiner does autopsy's and investigates deaths including decedents suspected of COVID 19. Throughout the week, swabs are taken of decedents suspected of COVID 19 . These swabs are gathered by pathologists and given to an individual from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Investigation unit to transport the swabs to public health in a box with a cooler and an Ice Pack is placed in the cooler with the specimen. The hazard is that the ice pack that accompany the specimen is kept in the refrigerator that the employees of Investigations unit keep their lunch. The same ice pack used to transport COVID 19 swabs. This behavior has been going on for three weeks and supervisors as well as the safety compliance officer have been informed.
