Brockway, 54615 Wisconsin, United States
Leadership with the town of Brockway are advising residents to limit their water consumption. They have recently announced that the water supply has tested positive for high levels of PFAS, a family of chemicals used mainly for non-stick, non-stain, or water-proof coatings. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) released the results of the tests, indicating that both wells used by the Brockway Sanitary District were above the Wisconsin health standard for PFAS.According to the news, these PFAS chemicals are known as "forever chemicals" and cannot be boiled out of the water. However, PFAS can be removed through the use of granular activated carbon filters or an RO system for the household. Residents can also seek an alternate source of water. The Ho-Chunk Nation is already receiving alternate water sources, as water bottles are being distributed to Tribe members.
Brockway leadership said that residents that are impacted by PFAS will be notified by mail in the coming days.
