Ozark Trail 64 oz Water Bottles recalled due to Serious Impact and Laceration Hazards, United States

6 months ago source cpsc.gov

United States

Walmart has announced a recall of Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles due to a risk of the lid forcefully ejecting, which poses impact and laceration hazards. If food, carbonated drinks, or perishable liquids like juice or milk are kept in sealed bottles for an extended period, pressure can build up inside, potentially causing the lid to pop off suddenly and creating a risk of injury from impact or sharp edges. These bottles were sold nationwide at Walmart stores and online in the United States.

Walmart has received three reports of injuries involving consumers who were hit in the face by lids that forcefully detached when opening the bottles. In two of these cases, the individuals sustained permanent eye damage resulting in vision loss.

The recalled product is identified:
- As the Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottle
- Model number 83-662.
- The bottles are silver with a black screwcap lid
- Measure 4.41 x 4.41 x 11.5 inches.
- Approximately 850,000 units are affected by this recall.
- There is an Ozark Trail logo embedded on the side of the bottle
- The model number does not appear on the product.

The issue was discovered following reports of injuries, including two cases of permanent vision loss. The recall was initiated on July 10, 2025, and is classified as a Class I recall.

If you or a loved one is harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
