Part of downtown Charlottesville was without power on Monday evening due to a crash involving a power pole. The crash occurred in the area of Court Square around 7:30 p.m. According to Dominion Energy's outage map about 282 customers are affected in the area.

Customers lost power this morning along Seminole Trail in Albemarle County. According to officials a truck crash near Timberwood Boulevard happened before 9 a.m. Traffic was affected for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene. Power is already restored in the area.

As of 7:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Dominion Energy's power outage map, 4,872 customers are without power. According to spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, there are several down trees and damages being reported in the area.

City officials in Charlottesville, Virginia are investigating following the detection of high levels of E. coli bacteria in Meade Creek. The Rivanna Conservation Alliance detected the bacteria in a recent sample of water taken from a part of the creek not far from Meade Park.

Meade Creek begins below Garden Street and Walnut Street in the Belmont area and heads north in an underground pipe before resurfacing east of 12th Street NE and flowing through Meade Park before reaching the Rivanna River.

Officials are attempting to identify the source of the contamination and address the issue. It is typically an indicator of sewage or animal waste contamination when E. coli is detected in water.

It is alleged that that on August 21, 2020 an employee of the Piedmont Family YMCA Intergenerational Learning Center tested positive for the CoVid-19 virus and that both Directors of this facility were ordered by the Virginia Department of Health to self quarantine for two (2)... On August 26, 2020 at approximately 11:00 am one of the exposed directors, who was supposed to be in quarantine was at the facility conducting business in the front lobby, where teachers and children enter an exit the facility.

On Tuesday, August 18th a receptionist tested COVID-19 positive at the UVA ER. The reception staff was forced to come into work the following day despite being confirmed exposures and many worked until 4-7PM. Employees were told that they did not care about the hospital or that... See More they are an essential business if they did not come into work. Management indicated that they are not required to quarantine or close because they are an essential business. Many staff members felt it was unsafe to return to work. Others were concerned about job security and continued to work Thursday and Friday. The Albemarle County Health department recommended that all reception staff quarantine. This was not done. A second employee has come up symptomatic and received positive test results (symptomatic Thursday, positive test Sunday, 8-23). Multiple team members have yet to be quarantined or tested despite this information.
