An electrical fire in a manhole on North Front Street Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 9, caused a power outage in Uptown Kingston. Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. workers responded to the underground blaze and had to shut power to most of Uptown Kingston.

Thousands of customers were left without power after isolated-yet-intense thunderstorms slammed pockets of New York Wednesday evening, downing trees and flooding roads. As of midnight, more than 14,000 customers were without power throughout the area, the vast majority in Ulster County.
