More than 53,000 customers are without power in widespread power outages in the Reno area. A heavy storm hit the area Saturday night and caused highway closures on Interstate 80, U.S. 50 and U.S. 89. Service might not be restored until Sunday afternoon.

Heavy snow has knocked out power to 1,697 NV Energy customers across Douglas County this morning. NVenergy.com reports 19 different outages at Lake Tahoe affecting 1,362 customers. The site also reports four outages in Gardnerville affecting 291 customers.
