Wayne County recently issued a public advisory for the City of Wayne after lead levels in the public water supply were found to be above the state's Action Level Exceedance (ALE) for lead in water. This advisory, issued on July 21, has prompted residents to take precautionary... See More measures to safeguard their health.

During recent testing, drinking water taken from more than 10 percent of the homes tested exceeded the action level for lead, which is 15 parts per billion. The action level is a threshold set by regulatory agencies to ensure the safety of drinking water. In response to the ALE, the public water authority must take immediate action to reduce the amount of lead in the water.

It's essential to note that not all homes in the community are tested during this process. Therefore, residents should remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring the safety of their water.

Residents of the City of Wayne must take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their drinking water. Regular testing and, if required, the use of lead-reducing water filters can significantly reduce the risk of lead exposure and its potential health consequences.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recommends that children under age 18 and pregnant persons should consume only water that is run through a lead-reducing water filter.
