Ameren Illinois spokesperson Brian Bretsch confirmed Friday after there was a 90-minute power outage earlier today in Alton. Approximately 2,700 customers were affected at 12:30 p.m. The cause was determined to be a piece of equipment that malfunctioned and fell into a power line.

Ameren Illinois customers in Alton and Hartford are without power as of 11 a.m. According to Ameren's power outage map, nearly 600 customers are without power in Alton, while 750 customers are without power in Hartford.

A power outage occurred this Thursday afternoon. Power is still out in downtown Alton and other areas of the Riverbend. Currently power is out at downtown Alton businesses like Mac's and the Hayner Library at both their downtown location and history center.
