A blackout hit almost half of Kingsport and Sullivan County on Tuesday afternoon as a storm rolled through the area bringing high winds. Appalachian Power reported 14,881 customers were without power at the peak of the outage as the storm ran through the Tri-Cities area around 4 p.m. The power company reported outages from Lynn Garden Drive eastward on US 11-W. The outage also went south to Center Street and Fort Henry Drive.
