The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality issued a boil water order for Shotgun Cherokee Subdivision in Island Park on Thursday. DEQ took samples from the subdivision’s drinking water system on May 17, according to a news release from the department. This was part of a larger investigation into water pressure and quality complaints.

On May 10, 2023, DEQ received notification from the lab of E coli presence in the samples taken. E coli is an indicator that fecal contamination has occurred in the drinking water system. All three systems are already on boil water advisories due to lack of water or low-pressure in the distribution systems.
