More than 53,000 customers are without power in widespread power outages in the Reno area. A heavy storm hit the area Saturday night and caused highway closures on Interstate 80, U.S. 50 and U.S. 89. Service might not be restored until Sunday afternoon.

More than 9,100 Douglas County homes and businesses are without power this morning after an outage occurred at around 10:20 a.m. NVEnergy.com reported restoration times around 1 p.m. Minden, Genoa and Lake Tahoe are reporting outages. As of 10:50 a.m. Gardnerville is mostly unaffected.

Power was knocked out in parts of Minden for the better part of 11 hours after a vehicle knocked down a power pole at County Road and Carval Court. The outage affected as many as 500 NV Energy customers
